Strategy Trader EAs (stEAs) allow you to automate your trading. An EA could be coded to open or close a trade; to add a stop or limit; to create an entry order; or really, to do just about anything. It's entirely up to you. Strategy Trader comes pre-loaded with four stEAs and many more are available at the Strategy Trader forums.

Strategy Trader EAs (stEAs) are similar to EAs used on many other automated platforms. Automated traders can enhance the performance of their EAs if they code their EAs for Strategy Trader. Strategy Trader EAs provide the following benefits:

    Strategy Trader was built for FXCM's No Dealing Desk Forex Execution model. No software bridges are used. This decreases the time it takes for you to click to place a trade, to the time the trade executes.

    Many other platforms, update price data second by second. Strategy Trader updates prices tick by tick. With Strategy Trader, you could get into trades faster than most automated EAs used on other platforms.

  • Out Trades: A Thing of the Past

    Because Strategy Trader communicates directly with FXCM, and all orders sit on FXCM servers, Out Trades, Off Quotes and Account Syncs are a thing of the past.

FREE Pre-Loaded Strategy Trader EAs

Strategy Trader comes pre-loaded with four FREE Strategy Trader EAs (stEAs)—right out of the box. So you can get started trading in no time. You can also purchase additional third-party stEAs from the Marketplace.

  1. Grid Trader

    Grid Trader uses a limited martingale methodology, where each trade is the same lot size. At any one time, the maximum number of open trades is set to 10 by default. The strategy is designed to perform best with currency pairs or market conditions that are range bound. Price filters, like historical volatility, are used to help insure that the strategy is placing trades in market conditions that are more favorable for the strategy.

  2. After Hours Trader

    After Hours Trader is a trend reversal strategy, which attempts to capitalize on short-term overbought or oversold market conditions. The strategy is designed to trade the major currency pairs (EUR/USD, USD/JPY, GBP/USD, USD/CHF) during the Asian market hours, where the major pairs are typically ranging. This strategy uses a 28-bar RSI calculation compared to the more typical 14-bar calculation. The reason for this is to try to capture price action at its maximum exhaustion.

  3. ST Breakout

    ST Breakout is a breakout trading strategy, which attempts to anticipate price action that breaks through a previously defined support or resistance level. The strategy is designed to trade the GBP/JPY and USD/JPY currency pairs, as these pairs often have a high likelihood of volatility expansion. Such pairs are typically more likely to break through (breakout) defined support and resistance levels, while maintaining volatility, which often leads price action to continue in the direction of the breakout.

Strategy Trader VPS

To take full advantage of trading automation, the Strategy Trader platform must be running 24 hours a day while trading is open. This ensures that the stEA's are actively looking for trading opportunities at all times. For most individuals, it is not always an option to leave software running continuously on their computer. Using a virtual private server (VPS) can solve this problem.

A VPS is a third party computer designed specifically for this purpose, which can be accessed online. The Strategy Trader platform is installed on the VPS and then the VPS can run, uninterrupted, 24 hours a day, 5 days a week.

If you choose to run Strategy Trader on a VPS, FXCM recommends FXColo.com† a third party VPS software provider. An FXCM client who uses FXColo.com VPS service is billed directly from their FXCM account.*

The Strategy Trader platform is capable of running several dozen charts and automated strategies at the same time. We recommend that the more charts and EAs you intend to run the more RAM your system has access to. This will help to ensure that Strategy Trader has all the resources it needs to perform efficiently. As a general guideline, we recommend the following:

Can I use a MetaTrader 4 EA on Strategy Trader?

No. MetaTrader 4 EAs (EAs) must be re-coded to Strategy Trader EAs (stEAs). The programming language stEAs uses is the open source C#. FXCM's programming services division can re-code non-commercial MetaTrader 4 EAs to stEAs.

To transfer your MT4 account to Strategy Trader, contact admin@fxcm.co.uk from your e-mail address on file with FXCM and request to have your MT4 account transfered to the Strategy Trader platform. Be sure to specify the account number and allow two business days to complete the transfer.

Please note: Hedging is not available on the Strategy Trader platform. Hedged positions will carry over to Strategy Trader during the transfer; however, all orders created after the transfer will function without hedging.
